A Chinese guy’s iPlayer review, seems a lot of people already got it in China.
OK, let’s look at it.
The outer pack
Looks simple enough, and beautiful ,truely.

iPlayer video playing

video parameter

the top is the name
format: realvideo VBR
file size: 787MB
playtime: 02:09:57
resolution: 768 X 416

the photoes looks no good, actual effect is better than the photoes you are looking.

My opinion on iPlayer:

smoothly or not:

The handbook recommend 640×480 videos, and I do not have much too videos on my computer, so I tried a 760×416 resolution video, which plays perfect. When I move the slider to fast forward the video, in surprise there is no delay.

clear or not:

Because of DS screen resolution limitation, the playing effect is very similar with DPG, not bad. But the subtitle is the problem, when you watch a video on your PC, the subtitle is clear, but the same video on DS, it is hard to see, I am expecting the external subtitle.

Flv format videos from tudou.com :

15

the top is the name
format: flash video
file size: 2152KB
playtime: 00:01:01
resolution: 352×264

16

FLV is a popular format, easy to download from video service website such as youtube.com and tudou.com. most of FLV video’s resolution is suit with DS screen.

MPEG-4 plays no good

17

the top is the name
format: mpeg-4
file size: 561MB
playtime: 01:32:34
resolution: 480×272

18

I chose a mp4 original for PSP, and found that mp4 plays not well by iPlayer. Then I converted a 320×240 mp4 myself, this time is plays well enough. I consider it is not a resolution problem, but the format, because of former tested rmvb format and others, which resolution is higher than 720×480, plays smoothly.

Big problem: the sound is out of step

Launch YSmenu

19

21

The official claims iPlayer supports all homebrews, so I have Ysmenu in mind and copy it, but it still can not run any games. However, I think it is possible to run a game in future.

Launch moonshell

20

Moonshell launchs and plays DPG without problem by iPlayer

the effect of playing music:

22

I chose itouch, PSP, and iplayer for comparison, and earphone is from itouch set.

The result is below(my own opinion):

sound quality:touch> psp , psp=iPlayer
format supporting:iPlayer>psp , PSP略大于touch

For a better experience, you’d better use a earphone, the speaker of DS litsens like no better than a normal radio, and the volume is too low.

Conclusion
—————————-
advantages:

1.Play rmvb、avi、rm、flv directly no converting,
2.compatible all homebrews, including moonshell, neoDS.

problems:

1.Because of the resolution limitation, the subtitle looks no clear, expecting external subtitle
2.MP4 playing performance is not good.
3.Because of the onboard chips, the cart will get heat after a while.
