Also the Sierra Quest games had good deaths Especially Space Quest . They don 't entirely make up for those games ' frustrating nature, but they 're a good opportunity to let the game 's quirky style shine through, even when telling the player they have to start over.

Unless I 'm misremembering Homeworld 2 learned exactly the wrong lesson from that. They still had the confusing 3d cursor system, but levels were designed so that almost all the action took place in a 2d plane, making the 3d cursor a confusing system that conveyed no gameplay advantage.

Nobody is claiming that steam doesn 't have the right to do this, or that it doesn 't have some reasonable internal logic. r n r nThere are lots of solution that make sense or are fair , but are still represent a step downwards in overall discoverability or usability.
