Dan VanBogelen's Blog

Just a regular guy with a head full of ideas. I have training in Film Directing, Art, and Electronic engineering. Seems like a hodgepodge of unrelated things, but I believe is a good place to start a career in the Biz. Film Direction teaches: Management Team coordination Scheduling Maintaining the vision of a product throughout its production. My Art training instructed me more about fundamentals of art, and practical application of my skills. Electronic engineering as it relates to game design? I know how to build a computer and have been doing so going as far back as a 286 computer. I well aware of hardware capabilities, and keep a pulse on what new technology will reasonably be applicable to the game industry.

Comment In: APB Counts 130,000 Users, 'Healthy' Player Spend [News - 08/24/2010 - 10:11]

The game is dead or ...

The game is dead or dieing. Too much hacking, and not enough costumer support. I found it near impossible to send in reports of people hacking. RTW actively squelched any posts regarding hacking that may include a players name or even video proof. One player was even banned from the ...

Comment In: In-Depth: What First-Person Shooter Creators Think About Subscriptions [News - 08/13/2010 - 08:08]

I will make this simple ...

I will make this simple based on my experience playing and paying for APB. First Person Shooters have issues with rampant hacking, Cheating, exploiting, and griefing. Not being able to do anything about the above group of people, because you didn't implement a decent Anti hack, or customer reporting system ...

As a non professional artist ...

As a non professional artist I don't make any money at it , my tools for design are those unreal, or HL2 environments. I don't have a ton of options to do things on my own. While I have been schooled in Art, there wasn't any options to lean about ...

Over half of them are ...

Over half of them are Hidden Object Games. in fact the whole casual game market is flooded with them... They are the fast food of games, easy to make using a basic prebuilt game template, they churn a new one out ever day.

The game is fun and ...

The game is fun and doesn't seem like a grind. and while the subscription fees are different, there not making it overly difficult to reach the top level. On the other hand, there is not much more you can do at the high end, that your already doing during the ...

Comment In: Perception Killed the A* (A Star) [Blog - 01/03/2010 - 05:27]

AI does get to be ...

AI does get to be predictable, but I always wondered if instead of trying to program intelligence into the opponents, and just build a learning system that is goal oriented. The AI would have a preset goal, and would just learn as it goes along to achieve a goal. If ...
