Daniel Jimenez's Blog

Dan Jimenez

As a veteran gamer I feel more and more compelled to share my ideas and experiences on how the current evolution of the video game industry came to be from the design and innovation marked from previous games. My growth in video games has come from being a simple hardcore gamer to a designer and follower of the industry. Although sadly I don't have as much time to play as in my younger years, I still find the time to read up and follow many of the current topics of discussion that the industry faces nowadays.

Ethics in gaming

There are a lot of ethical issues that the current gaming industry faces, and this ranges from basic game design decisions to the idea that games promote violence. I hope to tap on some of these issues and portray an opinion on them that will stir conversation.

Games as Art

Inarguably video games are works of art, but it's a unique form of art that even people today tend to brush off and not accept for what it really is.

Design issues

My graduate career has been stapled by my study in User-Interfaces. The reason I enjoy studying this topic so much is because it has so much interwined with the user experience and gameplay. A game with a poor UI will most surely fail to portray good gameplay and will most likely leave a poor user-experience.

These are the topics I hope to touch upon on my posts, and hopefully you will find them as useful as I find them as pleasant to write them.

I think that 's exactly what brought this discussion up in the first place. Publishers saw the potential of making money with games that cannot be trade-able/resold e.g. phone apps and PC games and thus began to want a piece of the used industry or wanted to abolish it altogether. ...

Comment In: Will HTML5 Change the Way Games are Made? [Feature - 08/29/2012 - 04:20]

I would agree with you ...

I would agree with you since I am currently learning Flash, but the fact that even Adobe said that they would stop supporting flash for mobile development actually reinforces the author 's statement.

Comment In: Opinion: Mass Effect 3's promise of ownership is one it couldn't keep [News - 03/21/2012 - 01:51]

I don 't see a ...

I don 't see a problem with speaking up and voicing your opinion, but when actual members of the dev team get harassed by the fans because they do not agree with the studios decision on how the ending is going to be, when the fans start to create groups ...
