Dylan Cuthbert's Blog   Expert Blogs

Dylan has aspired to be a programmer and game designer since he started fiddling around in BASIC on a ZX81 in 1981. He joined Argonaut Software in 1989 and worked there for seven years, five of which were working at Nintendo in Kyoto, Japan, primarily making StarFox and StarFox II. After that, he joined Sony and developed Captain Blasto for the Playstation, followed by the original duck-in-bath demo for the Playstion 2 and other technology for use by developers. From 2001 Dylan started up his own company called Q-Games, based in Kyoto, Japan who attempt to be fiercely independent, and who have been responsible for the PixelJunk series of games, StarFox Command, Digidrive,Trajectile/Reflect Missile/Starship Defender/Starship Patrol/X-Scape/3D Space Tank for Nintendo. They were also responsible for the Playstation 3's XMB graphics (including the wave background) and all the music visualisers that are included with the PS3 (ie. "canyon" and the "earth").

Dylan's and therefore Q-Games' motivation is innovation.

We are truly chuffed at getting three nominations for Eden To address Benjamin's concern - Indie has nothing to do with whether you are working from a garage or not same goes for indie music , the definition is closer to describing non-publisher or non-externally controlled creativity. The PixelJunk series ...
