Garth DeAngelis's Blog

I'm an Associate Producer working at Firaxis Games in MD. As a recent graduate from Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center Master's degree program, I've been able to cultivate various roles in the industry. In addition to production, I've been involved in design, writing, and musical composition on my graduate team project 'Winds of Orbis: An Active-Adventure', the first action-adventure game to promote full-body physical play. Fun fact: Batman, Luke Skywalker and C3P0 have all given it a whirl (check it out here: www.activeadventuregame.com).

That was my initial instinct ...

That was my initial instinct when I heard about this awhile back, but then I realized the appeal this may have beyond the core Rock Band/GH market. If the Wii could get our moms and dads to run out and buy a console, maybe a Beatles game can get that ...

Get this book. I learned more in a semester from Jesse than 20 years of playing games on my own.

I completely agree with Chris. I think it is a PR issue. Developers, for the most part, are working incredibly hard on what they are told to do. It's just that the suits are looking at their risk matrixes and saying Redundant first-person shooters or Mario will sell X million ...

I completely agree with you, Tom. There have been a few good articles on the exact topic you brought up, with this latest thread popping up: http://gametruth.org/blog/ p 42

I agree with this article, but it makes me wonder about the state of the industry why something like this even needs to be written. As a student producer transitioning to the professional world, I ve had the opportunity to visit dozens of top developers and learn about their project ...
