Heather Decker's Blog

TechArtist mutant, Right-brain/Left-brain fusion. Current student, graduating from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division at the end of June '09 with a B.S. in Game Art and Design. Also holding an A.A.S. in Graphic Design, along with computer hardware knowledge that has never been certified. Built three PCs, upgraded countless others. Nursed an abandoned laptop back to life and got to keep it. Hopes to some day obtain an additional PCI-E video card and experience SLI with the main system, but is pretty much a broke college student at this point. Specialty: Jill-of-All-Trades project floater. When the going gets tough, Heather calmly puts on another hat and does whatever it takes. Perks: Fun to look at, easy to get along with. A team-player, down with compromise and cooperation. Despite this poorly written profile, possesses great communication skills and the all-powerful positive mental attitude.

Comment In: Report: Researcher Dismisses Brain Age Benefits [News - 01/27/2009 - 06:54]

I agree with you guys ...

I agree with you guys on this one. If the test was done with a group of middle aged adults and a group of seniors, it would have been more useful. The game isn't intended to make ten-year-olds, who are still completing their basic education, better at math or memory. ...

Comment In: Opinion: How Will Obama Administration Affect Game Legislation? [News - 01/20/2009 - 07:06]

I would really hope that ...

I would really hope that they're going to be concentrating on a lot more pressing issues first, rather than trying to ban video games. I'd rather see a plan to turn this recession around and increase employment than this reoccurring crusade against kids playing games that aren't rated or intended ...

Caleb: Good call I found ...

Caleb: Good call I found Dungeonman to be an extremely amusing experience. In fact, that site has a few different games created to poke fun at different genres and platforms. Good stuff

Comment In: Report: Worlds.com Hits NCsoft With Patent Infringement Suit [News - 12/30/2008 - 01:38]

I think the growing theme ...

I think the growing theme in America would be, If the ship is sinking, sue someone else From what I'm seeing here, suing/patent trolling apparently takes less energy than coming up with original ideas to patent or developing any type of useful technology. Just hire yourself a rabid lawyer and ...

Comment In: Gamasutra's Best of 2008: The 5 Most Significant MMO Trends [News - 12/24/2008 - 05:11]

Aaron, If that's the case, ...

Aaron, If that's the case, I think your company's approach to microtransactions is great, because it doesn't offset the balance of the gameplay. That's where it becomes important that the developers are gamers themselves. In that respect, we can all understand the things that are frustrating, like imbalanced core mechanics. ...

Comment In: Opinion: Key Principles For Coping With Game Team Meltdown [News - 12/29/2008 - 05:14]

I don't think this article ...

I don't think this article has received enough positive feedback. It's incredibly true that negativity can spread like the plague and is almost always unproductive in the end. Sure you can't control other people, but you shouldn't cop out and let yourself become part of the problem. You'll keep more ...
