Jean-Michel Vilain's Blog

A few words on my experience: studied computer sciences at the Université de Liège (Belgium), entered the profesionnal life at 23 as a software engineer in Brussels, got bored of that job after 1 year, got back to studies in order to learn all I could about video game business and creation, earned a 6 months internship as a game designer in Paris at Eugen Systems, got hired and stayed there for 4 years. During my time spent there the studio was busy the whole time making RUSE, a AAA real time strategy game for UbiSoft (PC, Mac, X360, PS3). At that point I was extremely happy with such a creative position but the story repeats itself for I seem to always need more creative challenges.

In 2009, I reboot an old project with a friend, spending several hours a week on it. Some years later, two other fellows join us and Abrakam is born, yet we had to wait until June 2013 to found the company legally. In October 2013, we raise $94.000 on Kickstarter and launch an alpha version of Faeria to let backers enjoy the games instantly (I was doing all of the code, client/server, at the time, and most of that code still runs today). The story goes on as we raise 1M€ one year later. To be continued.
