Johannes Smidelov's Blog

Johannes has been a gamer since he got in contact with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at the age of five. Have since then played games, read about games and - perhaps most relevant to this site - followed the industry (each of these following each others with a few years). Recently went to University of Skövde and finished his Bachelor in "Informatics" (the program was Game Development - Design, but the school thought "Informatics" sounded better).

Currently founding and building (a company most likely called) Coilworks, a game development studio, as CEO and "Design grunt" (his own term for a generalist designer without much high-level creative influence).

Comment In: OnLive Reveals Per-Game Pricing Model [News - 06/21/2010 - 07:49]

I remember the same kind ...

I remember the same kind of discussions arising when Steam came, too. It's the same thing there, really - if Steam shuts down one day, the games are gone. And a bunch of other arguments. Yet Steam is, to say the least, accepted today. And this is only bad if ...

Comment In: Microsoft: 70 To 80 Percent Of Publishers Doing Natal Games [News - 01/12/2010 - 11:20]

There's a lot in the ...

There's a lot in the qoute ... 70 percent or 80 percent of the publishers in the world already doing Natal-based games, that can be questioned and reduced. Apart from the reasons already mentioned, it's also the aspect that a publisher may be counted into this that's doing one, or ...

Comment In: Game Designer As A Dream Job? [Blog - 11/27/2009 - 11:59]

In reply to I have ...

In reply to I have much less to complain about than most designers, but the image outsiders and worse students have can be a little depressing. I can't talk for all students, but as a student of the University of Sk vde second year I don't recognise that at all. ...

Comment In: An Alternative to Aggro [Blog - 09/02/2009 - 02:18]

An interesting aspect in this ...

An interesting aspect in this comment thread so far has been that some defend the aggro-mechanic as it would disturb the balance of tank/dps/healer if it wasn't there, which is a bit like defending mouse-look in a FPS because it would be difficult to fire the Rocket Launcer without it. ...

Comment In: Ludus Florentis: The Flowering of Games [Feature - 08/27/2009 - 04:25]

I'm 20, so games has ...

I'm 20, so games has been with me since the dawn of memory and I pretty much can't imagine life without the internet, so I'd like to say the article nails it. Unfortunately, there's plenty of uncertainty-factors in this, and the gaming generation coming of age can just as well ...
