It was my most anticipated game and out of the four games I bought last year it's probably near the top. But while the gameplay was great, I think they have a lot of work to do on their story-telling.

I think it should be noted that as of Mass Effect 2, the powers/abilities are more frequently recharged to be used more than once per encounter. I think that helps offset the use of ammo if the ammo runs out. Whether Mass Effect 3 provides further changes we will see.
