The following blog was, unless otherwise noted, independently written by a member of Gamasutra's game development community. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of Gamasutra or its parent company.

Want to write your own blog post on Gamasutra? It's easy! Click here to get started. Your post could be featured on Gamasutra's home page, right alongside our award-winning articles and news stories.

I posted my game engine for free on GitHub, maybe someone will be interested in using it. Anyway, here it is:

https://github.com/FreeRPGengine/Free-RPG-Engine-FaceBook-Game-App

I don't know if you're a programmer (you, the reader) or not, but basically GitHub is a place were programmers can get together to collaborate on a program that belongs to no one in particular.

I am hoping that the Wisdom of the Crowd will improve on the stale FaceBook RPG canvas.
I know some interesting things can be done with it, but everyone seems to be doing the same thing. Here's hoping that changes, for the sake of the genre.

Hello Luis, I'm going to keep a look and keep you posted! Appreciate the open source efforts you're doing!

High there, what are the licensing terms? If I use it and create a game that generates stuff are you going to come after me with a bunch of attorneys? I myself hate re-inventing the wheel. When it's time to take my small amount of games to face book I wound not mind using it.

Open source, awesome! love it, but what license are you using? Do you have a website created for it? If not, I would love to create one for you! no charge!

No license, just free and open source, it's public domain so have at it, no lawyers will come after you, they can't! and no one can posses it and take over it, either!

Hi, I wanted to tell you I took a look at the game and it looks great!! I'm trying to launch it myself but having a little problems probably with my versions. Can you please tell me exactly what version of Ruby, Rails and Gems you use to get the game to load? And can you use the standard "rails s" to launch it?

Thank You! And Thank You for the source as well!

Ok... I finally everything to load with bundle install..then raked the database which said something about "mission level" didn't exist..it did create the database in mysql though..then I launched it and it loaded with "ruby script/server". And behold the splash screen where you create your tribe name appeared, after I added one and clicked play game..it crapped out with other errors? Any idea as to what is going on? I would really love to get it working right. Any help would be very grateful. Thank You.

Ruby 1.8.7
Gem 1.6.2
Rails 3.0.12

The links to the images are not working properly.

I made a FaceBook page to facilitate collaboration:

Yes I know the links got broken up when I pasted them but they do work you just have to consider one image link is from http all the way to the "g" in jgp... I will read the page you reffed to. Maybe I don't have everything in my server set up right or something needs updating.. maybe if your willing to login to my server and set it up for me would really mean a lot? I have access to a clean server with nothing on it yet but Ubuntu 10 LTS.
