Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Needs Voice Commands
Posted by Luke Bergeron on Mon, 23 May 2011 04:44:00 EDT in Game Design, Console/PC

Posted by Luke Bergeron on Tue, 08 Feb 2011 12:21:00 EST in Game Design
Games are built on abstractions, both from the design standpoint and the player standpoint. There’s no point in “real life” where pressing X makes a person perform a jump, or a kick, or whatever. It’s an abstraction.

I get to recapture that old binge-gaming spirit, play till my eyes bleed, see how far I can get in the game before I have to return to the real world. These are special, rare times. These few moments are Gaming as an Event.

Yes, of course they would ...

Yes, of course they would need to be optional. That's why I like the idea of keeping it limited to only a few commands in a few specific areas.

How does one improve cut ...

How does one improve cut scenes I'd like ot hear your ideas on this.

Certainly - I doubted that ...

Certainly - I doubted that I was the first to think of this. However, currently only quest items are altered in this way, not rare items, which is more the point of my post.

I agree. That's why people ...

I agree. That's why people keep buying all episodic stuff, including comics, games, television series and all that. It's about constant progression of a story and good characters - just labeling it content isn't really the point of the thing. That's one of the things that bothers me with all ...

I don't like the idea ...

I don't like the idea of a commander and multiple troops that don't have as much power. I envisioned small 4 person teams because I think that the Left 4 Dead teamsize is small enough that everyone feels like they matter, but big enough that you need to work together, ...

@Michael: I'm not talking about ...

@Michael: I'm not talking about MMOs. I'm talking about single player games that use a quest interface similar to MMOs. Games like Torchlight, Zenonia, Borderlands, Fallout 3, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and The Witcher.
