Howdy!

In the past I’ve stumbled across a gaming experience or two that has got me excited enough to try to put that down on (digital) paper. As of 2013 I’ll be heading out into the gaming wilderness every two weeks in search of those same experiences. I’ll drag my findings back here, presenting them to you with all the glee of a cat with a freshly caught sparrow between its jaws.

These might be thoughts inspired by AAA titles, board games, casual games, games from years past or even playground games but all will be about a small exciting little idea with as little waffle as possible. No verbose, sprawling rants here.

So what can you expect? Majora’s Mask is my favorite Zelda game. I’m a Warren Spector fanboy. I maintain that Pro Evo 2008 on the Wii it the finest football video game on the face of the earth. I’d rather something awesome happen in a game than “win”.

If any of that piqued your interest read a few posts and I’ll endeavour to brave the wilds to bring you more.

I don 't even think ...

I don 't even think the term hardcore is well defined. I 've always preferred hardcore as a way to refer to the playstyle rather than a category of game or gamer. r n r nPokemon could be considered a mid-core game but tell that to the EV trainers out ...

I can 't say I agree with the level of hatred you seem to have developed Andrew but it was an interesting read none the less. At least you set the tone of the article in the first few lines :p r n r nBy no means do I think ...

Story articles always drag me in. r n r nIt always seems to be said that movies have this story thing nailed down yet most mainstream movies still have issues with their plot. More and more movies seem to be falling into the trap of telling me what is going ...

I suppose the problem is ...

I suppose the problem is what some of the audience see as the more enjoyable experience. If they find the faster game as more enjoyable they are seeing it as the core product and the slower version as an inferior version and that you are trying to black hat . ...

One of my enduring memories ...

One of my enduring memories of the game was weighing up the use of multi-tools / lock-picks / looking for codes. Having different routes to an objective was so much more rewarding when your ability to take the route was a reward for your choice of augs / tool usage ...

@ Adam P - I know how you feel, there 's a real problem with wanting to reward a player for investing time in the game and giving them an advantage over new players. r n r nIt also massively compounded by the fact that if you reward players with ...
