Matt Cascio's Blog

Hey guys, My name is Matt, as you can see from above. I am 18 years old, a freshman in college, and most importantly, an aspiring Game Designer. I started coming to this website because I love everything video games, and this site covers just about everything. As as far as interests are concerned, well here it goes. First and foremost, I love all things video games, as mentioned above. I love to talk about them, read about them, play them (obviously), and hopefully soon, design them. For about 3 years now I have known this is what I want to do with my life. There are only a few things that rank higher in pleasure for me that sitting down with a new, truly innovative game. There is much to know about me though outside of video games. Despite my love for video games, I actually played full time travel ice hockey for a good portion of my childhood. Hockey is awesome, it's still my favorite sport and thing to do other than play video games. I love all sorts of music, and all sorts of movies. That's about it.

Now, I'm going to start ...

Now, I'm going to start by saying I've never personally played any social games but I do have a basic understanding of their mechanics/concepts. To this degree, I agree with Blow. Mr. Sivak, you said that some games we choose to play with just our friends, or what have you, ...

Comment In: Video Games as Media [Feature - 02/16/2011 - 04:45]

What an amazing article. Definitely ...

What an amazing article. Definitely something to think about for both veteran and amateur designers alike. I think the best example of this games as media argument is the recently released, critically acclaimed, Heavy Rain. I have never personally played it, though from my understanding play is a relative concept. ...

Comment In: Black Ops: Silencing the Whiners, Boring Everyone Else [Blog - 11/10/2010 - 05:14]

I'll preface this by saying ...

I'll preface this by saying I have not logged any time in Black Ops yet. However I have logged 100s of hours in MW2. I have to say I was never very excited for Black Ops to begin with, but I can still comment on the design choices. 1 The ...

Comment In: A 'Saving Private Ryan' test for games? [Blog - 08/02/2010 - 08:20]

@ Dolgion, I think your ...

@ Dolgion, I think your perspective might be skewed a bit to me because of cynicism and/or media propaganda, but I 100 see your overall point, and I agree. @ Owain, I totally agree with your point, thats how I usually feel after great war movies/shows like Private Ryan, Band ...

Comment In: Bungie: New Project To Be 'Even Better And Bigger' Than Halo [News - 04/30/2010 - 08:46]

I'll admit that not all ...

I'll admit that not all the Halo games were the best thing ever, but they are still amazing games that play well. But above all else, Bungie does know how to craft a meaningful and fun universe. If these guys are now aiming for that right out of the gate, ...
