Matt Waldron's Blog

Education/Work Experience:

Matthew Waldron, born in 1983, is the epitomization of a "jack of all trades."  He completed his undergraduate studies at Northeastern University, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BS in the Music Industry, and subsequently completed multiple certificate programs with Berklee College in Audio Production and Music for Film, Television and Video Games.

Matthew's work experience ranges from Package Center Supervisor and Operations Manager at UPS, where he was responsible for the management, dispatch and supervision of the majority of the Boston-area UPS drivers; to private tutoring, primarily via Academic Approach--a company through which he has helped high school students achieve superior SAT scores (curriculum includes advanced high school math, reading comprehension and critical writing/grammar studies); to Senior Associate and Vice President of Armor Compliance, LLC, a Boston-based boutique investment advisory compliance firm focused on assisting SEC and state registered investment advisors in establishing and sustaining compliant practices.

In addition, Matthew co-founded and served as COO to Pine Knot Capital Management, LLC, a Boston-based intrinsic value hedge fund predicated on capital preservation and long equity evaluation and investing (he resigned from this endeavor and transferred his interest years later after realizing that the investing field was not his passion).  With Pine Knot, Matthew did everything from developing and designing the company's website, to authoring the founding legal documents, to creating audio visual presentations (complete with voice over and original score).  On the side, Matthew occasionally contracts to write commercial music for various corporate purposes.

CV and Hobbies:

Matthew is proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and the C# programming language.  He can compose music for full orchestra and produce digital renderings of his music via his DAW and related software, and is proficient with Protools, Sonar and Reason.

Matthew is an avid student of philosophy--both with respect to reading the works of the great philosophers and composing his own works in the field.  Matthew is also an avid guitarist and played lead guitar for the Northeastern University blues band.  Various bands he has played in over the years have received airplay on WAAF, WBCN, and WFNX of Boston; and he has opened for bands such as Keane, Ashley Simpson, and Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society.

Finally, Matthew has spent the past year creating and developing his own video game in the puzzle/adventure genre (with which he could certainly use some help if anyone is interested) in the ilk of NES Shadowgate.  As a one-man operation, he has pioneered every aspect of the game.  At the moment, the game is in a purely text-based format (similar to the Colossal Cave Adventure), but in time he would like to develop it into a visual frame "point-and-click" format in the style of Myst.

Video Games:

Matthew is looking to break into the video game industry because he has found the corporate business world to be composed of frauds and moneygrubbers who contribute nothing of value to the world.  Matthew has decided to pursue a path in life with respect to which he can draw satisfaction at having meaningfully impacted those around him, and the video game industry is the forum he has found best fulfills this desire while incorporating all of the creative pursuits (e.g., writing/grammar; storytelling; music and sound composition/production; and computer coding) he has been enamored with and passionate about over the years.

Potential employers should note that in Matthew they have an opportunity to bring on an entry-level team member willing to exceed expectations and work his way up as he hones his skills in video game development across the board.  Matthew is someone who has always viewed creative arts from a very serious and highly mathematical perspective, and so embodies a strong balance of creativity and academic/business prowess.

Matthew is generally a throw-back video-gamer who prefers games with a simple premise but inherent complexity, and values a good storyline, character development and an impactful use of music and sound over graphics and elaborate cinematics.  The Final Fantasy and Legend of Zelda series are his favorites, but he also has an affinity for well-designed puzzle games.  A few notable video game achievements follow:

Reached level 21 in NES Tetris
Defeated Snake, Rattle 'n Roll (unprecedented on YouTube without cheating)
Passed level 20 in SNES Zoop
Attained a +600 IQ in PSX Intelligent Qube
