Michael Blanchard's Blog

I am a Game Tester, currently contracted out to Microsoft Game Studios. I am also a professional Game Master for table top roleplaying systems. I am often invited to participate in what are known locally as "RPGA" days at local Game Stores. In particular, I GM Shadowrun's latest edition. I also know DnD 4th Edition, and a variety of other RPG systems. Lastly, I have two custom made universes I employ pre-existing rulesets in, and have gotten good reviews on them for both the world design itself, and my concept of storytelling an adventure in them. My career goal is to become a game writer, and am trying to gain perspective experience in the industry, and try to find jobs that will gain me experience in my desired career field. I also plan on trying to find affordable colleges to broaden my knowledge of the writing field.

Zynga is incredibly intelligent. Free addictive flash-based online games, with seemingly powerful extra goodies for seemingly next to nothing real life money. Even if every user only spent 1 USD on the game's available purchase options, they'd make 11mil, with minimal overhead costs. They're probably one of the smartest companies ...

Comment In: As Profits Rise, NCsoft Expects Aion To Be Second Place To WoW In US [News - 08/12/2009 - 08:57]

After partaking in the Beta ...

After partaking in the Beta events I can say I have full faith in Aion's ability to become a strong presence in the western market. What usually makes an MMO have staying power is bringing something unique to the table in a fun way. AION's flight system, particularly the aerial ...

Comment In: Vital Game Narrative: A Conversation With Rhianna Pratchett [Feature - 08/07/2009 - 06:50]

I agree with Tom. Narratives ...

I agree with Tom. Narratives should happen while the game is being played. A great example of this is the first 2 Thief games, where over half the game's narrative and storytelling happened while you were actively sneaking around.
