Michael Carr-Robb-John's Blog   Expert Blogs

My first passion when I was younger was to be a mad scientist taking over the world in a diabolical plan of world domination. That didn’t quite work-out (I’m still hopeful though and I’m always willing to accept applications for the roles of minion or lackey), luckily though my next passion was writing computer games and that I have been more successful with.

My first published game was in 1988 and since then I have worked with some of the most amazing and awesome people and companies in the games industry.

I believe I am overdue sharing my thoughts and experiences and if I manage to make you smile while you are reading then writing these blogs has been a worthwhile exercise.

These are my own personal thoughts and opinions and should not be taken as anything else.

My personal website is: http://www.thegameengineer.com

Unexpected Results  Featured Blogs

As developers we see more than our fair share of unexpected results during the making of a game, many of them are hilarious, yet we rarely record them with either a screen shot or a mini-movie.

Hi Curri, r n r nThanks for the comment, good feedback. r n r nConsider a small to average game might have 1,000 strings translating that into the basic languages EFIGS-N would give us at least six languages which means that potentially there are 6,000 strings. The idea behind the ...

That's actually quite a cool component, I can see a few benefits and draw backs, I would hate to have more than a handful scanning at any one time. But used with a scripting system it could plug a few holes where a script is overkill and vice-a-versa.
