Michael Eilers's Blog

During my years at UAT I have designed, developed and delivered over 30 courses for the curriculum, participated in numerous groups focused on curriculum design and delivery and shaped the UAT Game Department, one in which nearly 68% of the school's body of 1600+ students participates. During that time I have led or spearheaded numerous student and staff projects, mentored hundreds of students through their program and helped to create what we believe to be one of the most complete, well-rounded "game degree" programs in education today. I am also a founding member of Alpha Squad, UAT's elite game production environment. I'm an accomplished writer and editor, at one time the Senior Editor of Inside Mac Games magazine, as well as a contributor to numerous publications. I have several publishing projects in development, and continue to write for internal and external publications. Specialties: My primary skills are in game design, interactive writing, editing, rapid prototyping, curriculum design and development and producing small team projects. I'm also an experienced video editor (Avid, Combustion, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack) and Photoshop hacker with 12 years of web design and creation experience. I dabble in programming in PERL, Python and various game engine scripting languages including TorqueScript and ActionScript.

Comment In: Educational Feature: Paper Prototyping [News - 10/07/2008 - 08:15]

Tim, that is not what ...

Tim, that is not what paper protptypes do, nor what they are for. A board game is a standalone project that is a functional, complete game -- a prototype is to test game systems and mechanics, but rarely results in an actual playable game, and should not. It is intended ...
