Nils Haukås's Blog

Let's kick it off with some credentials: Bachelor in Multimediatechnology, presently studying psychology and help run a studentgroup for game developers called Pong (pong.ping.uio.no) I quite vividly remember the first time I came in contact with video games when I encountered an arcade machine featuring Asterix & Obelix at some mall. Thinking back I've moved through; Commodore 64, NES, GBS, N64 and currently it's DS, Xbox360 and PC. As I've grown older I feel I've become more connected with the games and interaction in a bigger picture. Play is vital to humans as play is vital to brown bears, kittens and all sorts of animals. So, I consider myself a fan of play in all sorts of arenas. It's all interaction in the end anyways, which we humans need.

I would argue that some wow servers already provide a very immersive experience, on servers labeled Role Playing that is. Here you can join guilds who speak in-character and /ooc out of character. Off course you get PvP and PvE players stumbling in from other servers and bringing that culture ...

Hmm, I meant to include moddb.com and www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/ as reasources for small scale game development for people with a short track record making games.

Reading through the post and comments it seems that people are having difficulties of different reasons. Interestingly most of the games mentioned here are games that we can all agree on having a medium to awesome quality. The game is good, but still there's something detering the player when it ...

I remember enjoying reading the journal Baldur's Gate 1 2 when I was younger and had the time to read all that stuff, haha. These days I'm mostly just playing to get through, and get the mechanics, like a marathon or something. Ah woe is me in these fast-food-casual game ...

I smiled when I read ...

I smiled when I read about the Naval officer, and the analogy about herding cats. Nicely written article. Gives hope to people fantasizing about working in the game industry, but finds themselves stuck within a different field like say Advertising, law etc. Funny thing. I do encounter people from time ...

Always fun to read tales from the gaming trenches . : Postmortems are invaluable for inexperienced people like me who want to get into the biz. Keep it coming :
