Rebecca Phoa's Blog

I am a person who would like to write; unduly so and to the point of distraction. That being said, I am unusually not qualified to write any sort of blog; having only 7+ months of game industry experience in junior writing and designing for a small independent Flash game developer, which I also spent a school term with as an intern writing dialogue. Still I want to talk about things important to me about the game industry and get my comments out there.

One traditional strength of the RPG genre and increasingly many others is avatar customization. But what happens if you simply have no choice? What then? Does not being able to control the main character from top to bottom make a game lesser?

As a student of art, I am aware that art must be constructive. By this I mean, art must reflect something about us as humans. What does it mean to be part of the human race?

Comment In: GarageGames adapts to hobbyist explosion with new tool [News - 01/09/2013 - 04:18]

This sounds like a good ...

This sounds like a good idea. I like the idea of fast prototyping and tinkering with game mechanics. Mostly because I just started seriously modding in NWN and I love the tool because you can quickly build and test.

@Zack Durden r n r nI know. I preferred ME1, ME2 was highly disappointing--nothing I did in ME1 affected ME2 and they turned it into a game I barely recognized. But as a 'customer, ' there is little one can do other than air your complaints. If you owned 'a ...

Likewise. I also ran into this for both my characters as well. They Bioware are 'on it ' in terms of a fix, however the character creation mechanics were changed. There are features that are not present in the current generator that I noticed I had the original ponytail hairstyle ...

Comment In: Opinion: How Mass Effect challenged my definition of 'RPG' [News - 03/01/2012 - 07:22]

It seems to me from ...

It seems to me from reading various forums and on their own BSN, Mass Effect 2 divided a lot of their existing consumers into different camps: those that enjoyed the gameplay because it veered off into third person shooter action and maybe enjoyed it for what it 's worth because ...

Interesting article since I am ...

Interesting article since I am also in the midst of writing my own diatribe about Dragon Age 2. I'll agree that from what I've played so far, it is a semi-sequel. I really loved the first game, but with this second one--there is stuff in there that I'm not sure ...
