Sherban Gaciu's Blog

I am a Canadian University of Waterloo student in Honours Computer Science, interning at various studios in North America until I graduate. While programming is my bread and butter, I've had jobs as a game designer, and also have experience in modelling and sketching. I am excited by the direction of the games industry and hope to be a big part of the push towards new experiences. Novel game play and well written stories are my two most favorite things. I also run the UW Game Development Club, which you can see here: http://www.uw-gdc.com/

The downloadable space seems like the perfect fit for Double Fine -- a niche that embraces stylish, quirky, and short experiences. Since risk is much lower, I hope other developers beyond thatgamecompany who are also delivering fabulous downloadable titles can follow their lead.

As a Canadian I whole-heartedly approve this message. I work at a game development studio up here one of our top executives sent an email around asking us to check out the issue. So at least Canadian game companies do care : Though, if you listen to the CBC radio ...

I suppose it's just preference. Am I willing to wait 1-2 seconds every time my character pulls out his map Yep. Do I need to know if I'm at 1 health or 5 health Nope, either way I'm screwed, so that gradient is meaningless and rather artificial to me. It's ...

Any game article that challenges its readers to think of different methods of story telling is a damned good article in my books. Thank you for sharing your ideas. My one concern is that, without a main story thread, the drama would not have a good arc -- though this ...
