Comment In: Why We Should Stop Saying 'Vertical Slices' [Blog - 12/01/2011 - 10:59]

I think your scope is ...

I think your scope is just different from Mr Gilbert's, though I think his definition is closer to the industry standard. A vertical slice as you describe sounds like it is limited to the first implementation of a single feature, which makes some sense, as long as the feature is ...

Comment In: Researchers Develop, Test Single-Pixel Display Embedded On Contact Lens [News - 11/23/2011 - 12:31]

Toric contact lenses reorient themselves ...

Toric contact lenses reorient themselves when you blink, because they always need to be oriented the same way to correct for astigmatism.

Comment In: Why Humanizing Players And Developers Is Crucial For League of Legends [News - 11/16/2011 - 03:45]

It is an impossible problem. ...

It is an impossible problem. The LoL community is a subset of the internet as a whole, which is overwhelmingly toxic. Comparing it to experiences I have had in HoN or the original dota or even xbox live, LoL certainly seems like a better environment, though this was the case ...

As you point out, your ...

As you point out, your final solution is very game-able. A possible alternative might be to have poison add an amount of damage per tick or whatever unit of time you are using to determine damage done rather than trying to add the full amount at once. For example, assuming ...

Comment In: Cutting Through The Fog Of Dark Souls (Part Two) [Blog - 10/15/2011 - 12:51]

Right on. I think we ...

Right on. I think we are in agreement, though I think I fall somewhere between you and Josh in terms of how much of an issue I had with this fight. For every other boss in the game I felt triumph and accomplishment when I figured out their mechanics and ...

Comment In: 9 Things We can Learn about Game Design from Dark Souls [Blog - 10/10/2011 - 07:37]

This is an apt comparison. ...

This is an apt comparison. In playing Dark Souls I was heavily reminded of Lords of Shadow. The combat is much less chaotic and punishes you more for just mashing buttons, though.

Comment In: GDC Online: League Of Legends Lead Producer On Being A Better Leader [News - 10/12/2011 - 01:06]

Production is not community management ...

Production is not community management and his talk wasn't about community management.

Comment In: Gamazon: 'Feminist Whore' Powers Activate. [Blog - 09/08/2011 - 03:56]

@Adam Posts like yours are ...

@Adam Posts like yours are what I WOULD consider honestly addressing the issue. My problem with this article is not that the conclusion is wrong, but that it fails to support that conclusion because the arguments are weak and/or fallacious. Even if you are writing about something that is obviously ...

Comment In: GDC Europe: Obsidian's Five Hard Lessons Of RPG Design [News - 08/17/2011 - 11:33]

Is the purpose of having ...

Is the purpose of having a spec for your character to test the player's ability in some way, or to allow them to tailor the game experience to their expectations/what they are having the most fun with If it is a test of ability, then you are testing foreknowledge that ...
