Thomas Eidson's Blog

I am a game developer that has been developing games since the 1980's as a hobby.  I began my software engineering career in the 1990's.

Professionally, I have been developing games since 2000 for EA, Sony, Heatwave Interactive, and my own company Foe Games.

I focus primarily on MMO system design and have worked on five MMOs to date (notably, Ultima Online, Star Wars: Galaxies, and DC: UO).  I have worked on social games for Facebook, applications for mobile, and have done some console programming (The Godfather: The game).

I prefer to work on game systems, which are the largest, dynamic pieces of video games.

Any game that lets you ...

Any game that lets you create your own content is to some degree a sandbox. I believe that the author is saying that the content creation is created as part of the gameplay and not principally by external tools. A concept he mentions is player interaction with the game, which ...

I worked at a flow ...

I worked at a flow pump engineering firm in 1994. They wanted, for some bizarre reason, flow efficiency charts for speed and material graphed in AutoCAD. I used Excel for the datapoints and had it output LISP and used I believe DDE to get AutoCAD to cooperate with Excel Windows ...
