Event Description

Workroom Barcelona films & Games Art Direction is a project designed for professionals in the audiovisual sector that want to explore new ideas and experiences that help them to develop their projects. The aim of bringing three great artist that will talk about cinema, video games, illustration and design is to turn Workroom Barcelona films & Games Art Direction into a participative place where you can share projects and creative ideas. At Workroom Barcelona films & Games Art Direction we will have the opportunity to share ideas with Marcelo Vignali, the current art director at Sony Pictures Animation, Carles Grangel, style and character creator for filmmakers like Tim Burton and Steven Spielberg, and Antxon Gómez, an art director known for his regular collaboration with Pedro Almodóvar and awarded with a Goya prize for “Che, el Argentino” (2008). We will also have artists from Digital Legends, a videogame developing company. During the three days, we will alternate conferences and other activities with master classes and roundtables given by guest artists. They will reveal us their success secrets and will explain their personal experiences while working at big productions. They will tell us how did they made those characters and spaces that have captivated so many generations. Master classes will focus on theory and practical experience in visual creation. We will analyze the relationship between the art director, the filmmaker and the producer. We will explore the peculiarities of artistic direction and style creation in fiction cinema, animation cinema and videogame artistic development. The only sessions with limited capacity are the three roundtables with the main speakers. There are only 20 places on each one and tickets must be purchased in advanced. During roundtables,topics covered during the master class are pooled and discussed in depth. The goal of roundtables is to let participants get up close and personal with the artists. Antxon Gómez’s master class will have the format of a “cineFòrum”, where participants are encouraged to explore the artist’s job through an analysis of some scenes that he has selected and that will be projected in the room. The audience will have the subjective view of Antxon on the creative process and conceptual development that have led to build this scene in a certain way. He will also talk about his latest work “Los amantes pasajeros” (2013). Antxon, offers us a very attractive session and expects active involvement of congress attendees in order to encourage discussion and exchange of views. In the “Exposé” demo reels or shorts will be displayed in order to facilitate professional contact among participants. All attendees whether professionals or students will have the opportunity to send two minutes of video footage. In addition, the organization will select 10 works and their creators will have the opportunity to show their projects to the audience in the auditorium. Last but not least, we are proud to announce that at the closure event of Workroom Barcelona Films & Games Art Direction, on February the 22nd, Workroom Barcelona SL., the organizer, will give a scholarship to a student attending Workroom Barcelona to expand their artistic knowledge. This goal has been achieved thanks to a school whose name will be announced soon.
