geek’s headshot shows what happens when you combine long hours of
coding with buttermilk and Indonesian food. |

| Above
all, CoreLife, my übergeek freeware project featuring
real-time evolving virus code; then there's Virtual Fire,
a small graphics toy, which got picked up by SoftDisk Publishing
- nothing spectacular, but I mainly abuse that fact to brag about
sharing my "early Softdisk roots" with the real luminaries
from id and Epic :-) |

Working on technology for Unreal and Unreal Tournament
– mainly graphics- and under-the-hood programming stuff. |
| Why I Got Into
the Industry: |
| In
the early ‘90s I was slowly dropping out of college while having
big dreams of becoming a PC shareware author. I even bought Steven
Hudgik's Writing and Marketing Shareware and a shareware
marketing manual from J.W. Olsen, plus TONS of blank 5-1/4" floppies
(which are still gathering dust in the attic of my parents' house....).
I got my foot in the door with Epic Games by e-mailing with Tim
Sweeney on Compuserve, waaaaay back in January 1995. They were just
starting development of Unreal and liked the 2D fire effects
demo I sent them. I ended up joining the team in the summer of 1997
in Canada for a couple of weeks of "Unreal Crunch Time,"
which turned into nine cold but very educational months - where
I also made some really cool friends, some of whom are still part
of the Unreal team today. |

| Why I Joined Gamasutra: |

a great companion site for additional cool articles, and source
code for the programming features in Game Developer magazine. |

The programming

Games for the Pentium III Processor. Assembly optimization is
my first love, while I love the power of higher level C++ coding
I'll probably always be crafting inner loops in assembly, if only
for fun. |

Geeky Dream: |
| They
all feature me getting in predicaments which I solve simply by using
my ability to fly. The people in my dreams are always amazed at
that, which baffles me - you'd think they'd be used to it by now.
