Writers Guild nominee Anne Toole provides narrative design, story and character development, and dialog for games across all platforms. With a penchant for telling stories with a light tone and a dark underbelly, she prefers writing contemporary mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, horror and the occasional romance. Recently, she wrote for the Emmy-winning webseries THE LIZZIE BENNET DIARIES.
Anne started her career in television and has worked in syndication, cable, broadcast primetime and daytime. After writing for DAYS OF OUR LIVES, she was hired away as Head Writer for a game based on the STARGATE SG-1 series. She then earned the Writers Guild nomination for her work on THE WITCHER, a dark fantasy game. She has since acted as writer and narrative design consultant on a diversity of titles, ranging from casual to console, single-player to massively multi-player, and serious to entertainment, for young adults as well as mature audiences. Recent credits include LOST GIRL: THE GAME, an iOS game based on the hit Syfy series, and ROCK OF THE DEAD, a horror comedy game for 360/PS3.
Aside from her creative writing, Anne has contributed chapters to PROFESSIONAL TECHNIQUES FOR VIDEO GAME WRITING, 2008, and WRITING FOR VIDEO GAME GENRES, 2009. She has also written over 200 blog posts on working with writers, writing and designing games, and virtual collaboration at the Writers Cabal Blog. She tweets on game design, television, comics, and social media @amely.
Anne has spoken extensively on entertainment as well as games at the inaugural Nokia OpenLab, NAB, GDC Europe, GDC Online, South by Southwest, the ION Game Conference, PAX, Digital LA, and Comic-con International.
