Contract
Work

How
It Works
Save
Time Finding Contractors
Unlike
Gamasutra's "Jobs" listings, which are solicitations for permanent
full-time employees, Gamasutra's Contract Jobs section lists projects
that companies are looking to outsource. Contract work is project-based,
with a defined start and completion date, performed by a individual
freelancer or subcontracted company. Many game projects rely on contractors
to handle programming, art, audio and production work, but finding the
right contractor can be an expensive, time-consuming process. That's
why it pays to use a system like Gamasutra to advertise your project
to the entire game development community.
If
you are a game developer looking for contract work, or a game producer
looking for a contractor, the Gamasutra Contract Work database can help
you. Gamasutra brings producers and contractors together by letting
producers advertise their projects to the thousands of contractors who
visit Gamasutra, and invites those contractors submit proposals.

For
Contractors
Using
the Project listings, you can quickly and easily scan, sort, and search
listings of upcoming projects. You can search based on the type of work
(e.g., programming, art, audio, etc.), where the project is (by narrowing
your search down to a specific city, state, or zip code region), whether
or not the job must be performed on site at the employer's office, and
so on. Once you find a project that fits your expertise and upcoming
work schedule, submit a proposal to the company that posted it. Your
proposal is automatically sent to the person who posted the project,
and is queued up with any other proposals also submitted. The person
who posted the project may contact you to negotiate the specific terms
of the work at that point.
For
Employers
If
you're in search of a contractor to work on some aspect (audio, programming,
animation, testing, etc.) of your game, you can post your project, on
our site to solicit proposals for the work.
Step
1: Post The Project.
Using a fast one-page form, you describe your project's needs and specifications:
project description, what your company does (you may remain anonymous
if you wish), location of the project, whether the contractor has to
work at your location, project start date and duration, and so on. When
you're happy with your project's description, enter your credit card
information, and your project is instantly to the site, and depending
on the package you selected, sent out in our weekly newsletter to 75,000
people and posted on the Gamasutra homepage.
Step
2: Process Responses To Your Project.
When contractors bid on your project, they fill out a Project Proposal
form on Gamasutra with their contact information and proposal details.
Each time a contractor submits a bid on your project, you receive an
email notification and the proposal is queued in your private "Manage
My Project Listings" page for you to review.
After
going through all of your proposals, identify one or more contractors
that you would like to follow up with. You probably will want to get
more information from a bidder, such as references, further explanation
on some aspect of the proposal, and so on. Be prepared to negotiate
-- the bidding process is often full of give and take between client
and contractor.
Step
3: Select The Best Proposal
On Gamasutra,
we don't insert ourselves into the process or attempt to make the decision
for you. You're in control. As such, when you've finalized things, please
do two things:
-Pull
your project down from the site by clicking the "Hide Project Listing"
button (good if you want to re-post the project at any later date),
and/or by clicking the "Delete" button (the project listing
is gone forever).
-Send
out a quick email to the contractors who didn't get the work, thanking
them for their proposal and notifying them that the business went to
another contractor.
