“Eagle Rock” was finished in Photoshop for Deadlands:Doomtown. It began as a monochrome colored pencil sketch drawn from Pawnee warriors I found in the National Anthropological Archives of the Smithsonian. My sketch combined the disparate body, tomahawk, and face of three different Pawnees. I then scanned my sketch and placed it on a layer above a photo background. I added color to the warrior in keeping with his new background, and painted in the specific markings that I’d been asked to. I then altered foreground and background to increase contrast and mood.
