Grom · Trailer (Rebelmind)
Grom (PC, action/RPG) is a kind of Indiana Jones type adventure. Set in Tibet, 1942, Nazis are looking for mysterious ancient weapon. The Polish colonel Grom is out to stop them from succeeding. It's his special mission for British secret service. The game features battles, encounters, a monastery, bandits, magic, ancient gods and demons - I hope, you can hear it all in 3 minutes of music...

Grom - Demon of Fire (Rebelmind)
Colonel Grom is fighting against the ancient Demon of Fire (demon's weapon are lightnings and fireballs). The music is very dramatic, but generic enough to serve as a background for playing.

Grom - Siege (Rebelmind)
This is the siege of a flying fortress of demons that is attacked by Grom's flying disc. The music is orchestral, but not as classical as in the Trailer or Demon Of Fire. [MP3]

A Fistful Of Gold · Trailer (Rebelmind)
This game isn't complete yet. There is only the trailer at the moment. The story is about lonely man, hunting for bandits, creatures and dragons for money. A real western hero, but in a middle-age, fantasy world. I was asked by the Rebelmind guys to create music like the Morricone style. It's true, he is the master... [MP3]

Great Journey · main title & menu (Rebelmind)
Great Journey is an adventure game that teaches children ages 6 -12 about ecology. The premise is that somebody is polluting the clean landscape of Antarctica with a variety of trash and it's up to them to clean it up.

Love Affair Of Gentleman
This is my favorite animation film (by Tomek Kozak) to which I had a chance to compose the music. This is a metaphysical story. The protagonist of the film is playing a game with the devil. There is no happy ending.

Salome
I wrote this music for the Drama Theater of Warsaw, where Salome by Oscar Wilde was performed. It is the ancient legend about love, power, decadence, passion and holiness. A culmination of the story is the wild, libidinous dance of beautiful Salome. I was inspired by music of Peter Gabriel.

Bio:

Jaroslaw Siwinski's musical life began when he started playing the piano at the age of seven. He went on to study piano and composition (classical and electronic) at the Frederic Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. From there, he has taken part in many seminars, festivals, concerts and multimedia projects. He also writes contemporary and creative music for children and music for theater and film. He has always loved fictional books and science fiction movies and now has the opportunity to create worlds of his own.

His adventure in the game industry didn't begin until fairly recently. In the summer of 2001, an acquaintance was looking for a sound designer for the game Grom by Rebelmind (available in USA and Europe in 2003). Jaroslaw submitted some samples and Rebelmind took him on. A few weeks later, the composer at Rebelmind was leaving and Jaroslaw was offered the vacancy. He is now currently working on Wings of Honour and A Fistful of Gold. He is sure that if his childhood had been in the PC era, he would have become a videogame maniac at an early age.

Why I Got into the Industry:

I was inspired by Godzilla as a child. He was my hero. The music that accompanied his larger-than-life presence led me to where I am today.

In computer games, I found an area where I could create music that makes me happy. I want to continue for the next fifty years.

Tools I Can't Live Without:

My brain. Also my E-mu E-Synth and PC (Cubase 5.0 + WaveLab 3.0 + Gigastudio 2.0 + "Advanced Orchestra" library by Siedlaczek).
Favorite Game Audio:
Neverhood for its sense of humor. There is a high compability between music, sound FX and picture. It's funny, crazy, and scored formidably (for example, the first location outdoors).
Inspiration:

The things that inspire me are a specific mix of imagination, utopias, pathos and kitsch:

  • The Japanese Godzilla series and Dune by David Lynch are the most important
    to me.
  • Classical contemporary music. John Cage, Louis Andriessen, Giacinto Scelsi, Steve Reich and many many others. You don't hear it in my game music, but they are very important to me.
  • Disney animated features. Last month I went into rapture over Treasure Planet and Monsters Inc. (my daughter is 5 years old).
  • Contemporary architecture and design, some crazy urban ideas, concept cars (mostly by Citroen or from Japan).
  • Silence and the flora and fauna of the forest.
Music I Listen To While Working:
I analyze the masters very often: John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Eric Serra, music from action movies. However, there is always a point when I turn the CD player off and work in absolute silence.
