Work 1 This is the Main Titles for an undisclosed project by SilverTree Media. To create this piece I used Cubase SX as my sequencer and mixer, and Gigastudio, Garritan Personal Orchestra, and Stylus RMX as my samplers and virtual instruments. I was fortunate enough to record live vocals for the choir parts. I also played/recorded violin to overlay on top of the strings to add a little more emotion. The piece itself has a light sense of intensity, balanced by the heavy horns and strings, and the solo voice and celesta.
Work 2 This is a theme for the "bad guys" in the undisclosed SilverTree Media project. Again, I used Cubase SX, Gigastudio, Garritan Personal Orchestra, and Stylus RMX. I was also able to record the a cappella group for this track. The piece has a playful evil feel to it, starting with bassoon, and ending with the horns taking over.
Work 3 This theme is the "good" theme for the undisclosed SilverTree Media project. I was looking to create a piece that sounded happy, heroic, and a little mysterious all at the same time. Like most of my other current work, I used Cubase SX, Gigastudio, Garritan Personal Orchestra, and my recorded violin as an added layer. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the different types of thematic ideals (happy, mysterious, herioc) merged together to create this piece.
Work 4 This theme is the "evil" theme for the undisclosed SilverTree Media Project. I was hoping to portray not only the idea of evil, but that of sadness, and a little remorse. The use of bassoon as a double for the horn line really helped deepen the feel of the horns, bringing it to a new emotional level. Again, I used Cubase SX, Gigastudio, Garritan Personal Orchestra, Stylus RMX, and the a cappella group to create this piece.
Work 5 This piece was written for a game geared towards the younger demographic. In this piece I attempt to relay a sense of compelling mystery in a very light hearted way. For this piece I used Cubase SX, Reason 2.0, and my recorded violin.
Work 6 This piece of music was written as a loop for a game called "Airblade". The game is a rail-shooter, downloadable for the open source Panda3D engine. The game is a futuristic, fast-paced, 3rd person shooter. I used Cubase SX, Reason 2.0, and recorded my guitar (overlaying a few takes).
Work 7 This piece, called "evanescence", was written during my undergraduate study at Carnegie Mellon. I was supposed to compose a
piece using purely pentatonic scales, and, although that part of the piece didn't work out to well, it spawned a great tune for piano and solo oboe. I wrote the piece the old fashioned way, using, simply, pencil and paper. The piece was performed by two students at Carnegie Mellon. It is, to this day, one of my favorite compositions.

The Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at Carnegie Mellon University offers a two-year Masters of Entertainment Technology degree, jointly conferred by Carnegie Mellon University's College of Fine Arts and School of Computer Science. Carnegie Mellon is relatively unique among U.S. Universities in being able to offer this kind of degree, as we have both top-quality fine arts and top-quality technology programs. [More...] |

I am currently working as a spring semester intern at the Pittsburgh-based development studio, Silvertree Media, acting as composer and sound designer. Four of the tracks I am submitting to you are from a private IP for the company. I feel that this is some of my best work as a result of being involved in such a creative atmosphere, as well as continuing my role as a student in academia. Creatively, this year has been fantastic. These four tracks (adw_work1, adw_work2, adw_work3, and adw_work4) are orchestral scores that I composed, and recorded using MIDI sequencing and sample libraries, as well as recording my own violin as a seperate layer, and an a cappella group for the vocals.

| Bio: |
Ari is originally from Roslyn, NY in the suburbs of "Looooong Island". He has a Bachelor's degree in Humanities and the Arts, with focuses in Music Composition and Film/Media studies, from Carnegie Mellon University, and is in his final year at the Entertainment Technology Center. He has always been a huge movie buff and has recently discovered the magic of console and PC gaming.
Ari has been immersed in music from a young age. He began violin at the age of 4, piano at 5, guitar at 11, bass guitar at 12, and then progressed into the electronic instruments (Computers!!) at 17. Although he has been classically trained, he loves nothing more than to get up on stage and play lead guitar in a hard rock band. Only recently has he been able to combine the styles, and truly experiment with music.
After working at three computer game companies as a sound designer, effects editor, and composer, and continuing his studies in the Entertainment Technology Center, Ari found that composition and sound design can be formed into an incredibly fulfilling career. |
| Inspiration: |
| A lot of my inspiration comes from just being in a creative environment. Motifs and themes come to me easiest when I am involved in a project from the start. I don't think I am inspired to work by a specific person or thing. It is more the idea of just being able to sit down and create that drives me. |
| Favorite Game Audio: |
| Silent Hill 2 music and the Doom 3 sound design |
Why I Want to Get into the Industry:
|
|
The gaming industry is full of innovation. Being involved in such an industry can only help the creative process. It is great to be involved in an industry where things are constantly changing and improving.

Tools I Can't Live Without: |
Cubase SX and Gigastudio. Without those two, I might be forced to
imagine how my music would sound, rather than sit at the computer and
listen to it. |
| Music I Listen To While Working: |
| I try not to listen to other music while I'm working. I tend to be influenced by the other music, and sometimes realize that what I had written isn't mine at all... |
| Favorite Book: |
| It's not so much just one book, but Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series. All seven books are fantastic, and it is amazing to see how such lengthy stories can be tied together, not only within the series, but to his other books as well. |
