Announces Its VoodooTV Products
3dfx
Interactive, long known for its 3D video products for the PC has announced
it is rapidly finalizing the development of its VoodooTV products. The
VoodooTV 100 PCI, VoodooTV 200 and VoodooTV-FM (PAL version for Europe),
add functionality like improved channel management and stereo capabilities,
.MP3 encode capabilities and enhanced digital video recording power
to a PC. The VoodooTV 200 and VoodooTV-FM introduce a solid state ``tuner
on a chip'' technology to the PC.
3dfx says that it is strongly targeting the multimedia peripherals market
with these products, and they are looking ahead at new technologies,
such as such as high-definition television, digital video encoding and
decoding products and related technologies. 3dfx has had a bit of trouble
maintaining its technology edge in the 3D video card market against
graphics chip giant Nvidia, and they recognize that shifting the focus
to expanding functionality is critical to success where they no longer
have a technology edge.
VoodooTV
200 is engineered with a dual-conversion silicon tuner technology that
is FCC-cable ready, designed for 3dfx by Microtune. The silicon tuner
technology, MicroTuner MT2032, prevents channels from bleeding over
each other through a superior adjacent channel rejection feature. Dust,
humidity and noise will not affect video quality. VoodooTV 200 features
include a stereo TV signal, MPEG capture, digital VCR, .MP3 encoding
and stereo FM radio reception.
VoodooTV
100 brings basic mono TV functionality to the desktop for that someone
who just wants the basics, and will run for about $69.00. VoodooTV 200
PCI will retail for around $99.00 Both are expected to be available
as early as October 17, 2000.
