Theory Puts Infogrames'
Streaming PC demos are available in the "Demos" area and are identified by Stream It buttons. Broadband users simply click the Stream It buttons and, after a brief 'jumpstarting' period, play the game. Some of the titles offered will range from Unreal Tournament, Test Drive Le Mans, Demolition Racer, Boarder Zone and Slave Zero. Several of the games offer Internet multiplayer modes of play that can be played while the software is being streamed. Users are required to have broadband Internet access, such as cable modem, DSL or T1. The first time a user chooses to stream will result in a brief process whereby the 1.8MB Stream Theory Player is installed on their PC. Thereafter users can access PC demos in as little as a few seconds to a few minutes. Stream Theory is targeting this technology at not just major game releases and demos, but also for the game beta testing market. With ease of installation, and clean install and removal of files, combined with the elimination of the need for sending out patches, Stream Theory hopes that this technology will find followers in all the phases of game content distribution.
