Mastertronic Launches 'Great Indie Games' Retail Label With World Of Goo

U.K. PC game distributor Mastertronic Group is launching a new label for indie games dubbed "Great Indie Games", which is debuting with the release of 2D Boy's World of Goo.

Mastertronic currently distributes budget, disc-based software at retail. The Great Indie Games label will bring independently-developed games, many that are largely available as digital downloads, to physical retail in hopes of addressing a wider audience for the games.

Mastertronic will launch the acclaimed World of Goo in the U.K., Ireland, Australasia, and Nordic territories in "early July" for PC. The game will retail for £14.99 and €19.99.

World of Goo originally launched in 2008 on Nintendo WiiWare and PC, and was very well-received by gamers and critics.

Mastertronic did not announce any other Great Indie Games titles, although managing director Andy Payne said in a statement, "We are on the look out for more indie developed games, so any developers who want their game sold at retail should get in touch with us.”

He added, "With the many and varied PC games offerings out there, casual or otherwise, there is a place for great games that have been produced on a lower budget than normal by small development teams."

Mastertronic head of publishing Neil McKenna called the launch of Great Indie Games a "natural progression" for the budget retail PC game distributor.
