| 12.06.2006Strange Agency Article on Tomb Raider I read the Strange Agency article with some interest but was left feeling a little confused at the end of it all as to what the benefits were of knowing all of this as a developer? I appreciate it's very interesting but I can't very well ask my game designer to sit down and make sure the game is designed with an exact ratio of certain activities!
Equally, the biggest concern I have about this method (as described in the letter to the editor) is that the system bases its analysis of a game's activities purely on words from reviews (if I understand the system correctly) - but surely a reviewer may play a game very differently to a normal game player? Not only that but a game reviewer may choose to concentrate on specific aspects of the game - for example, when reviewing the new Zelda game they might gloss over the fighting and exploring (since these are mainstays of the franchise) and concentrate on what's new in the game - which would surely skew the results?
Bottom line - all very interesting but what is it REALLY telling me that I can trust and act upon?-John Anthony |
