| 12.12.2006Stealing is...um...wrong. To justify stealing because it eventually turned you on to buying games is ludicrous and only *sounds* reasonable when you list the companies that "won you over". What about the companies whose efforts didn't land on your "I-suppose-I'll-stop-sucking-and-pony-up-the-dough-for-the-sequel" list? Does the fact that you buy Blizzard games help them pay their bills?
To counter your "exposure" argument, most games now have demos, downloadable for free, that give potential gamers the "peek" you lament lacking as a boy.
Do you dine-and-dash when you look for a new restaurant? BitTorrent movies so you can decide whether to buy the DVD? Swipe boxers and briefs from WalMart to find which best suits your nethers?
It is one thing for a company to offer samples as a form of marketing, but entirely another for a person to take it upon themselves to steal under the guise of becoming an "informed consumer" and potential advocate. If you're so convinced that your opinions influence the purchasing habits of the masses, present that fact to the companies you steal from and they may just *pay* you to play their games. Otherwise, get over your bad self.-Sean Bean |
