UK Charts: Cars Overtakes GTA: LCS
Advertisement
After five weeks at the top of the UK sales charts, and after having seen off considerable competition from the likes of New Super Mario Bros and Prey, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories has finally been knocked off the number one spot.

The game has been bested by THQ’s movie license Cars, which saw sales jump by 88 percent following the release of the film in the UK. In fact, one statistic that is unlikely to please some observers is that fully a quarter of the all-format top forty this week is made up of movie-licensed titles. This is a particularly notable achievement, given that the UK charts combine all individual SKUs of the same game into a single chart position.

There are no new releases in the top ten, but The Sims 2 has gained five places at number eight, following the release of the PlayStation 2 budget priced Platinum version. There are two new entries in the top forty, though, in the shape of Sony’s Formula One 06 on PlayStation 2 and PSP at number fourteen, and PC expansion pack Civilization IV: Warlords at number thirty-six.

Vivendi’s Miami Vice: The Game on PSP also enters at number twenty-five on its second week of release, ahead of the opening of the movie on August 4th.
