GameFly Rental Chart Besieged By Undead, Dead Rising

This week's top rental charts from U.S. game rental company GameFly, representing the most requested games for the week ending August 4, highlights the popularity surrounding video game titles that have been already released, as well as those that are yet to debut.

While last week saw Square Enix's upcoming PlayStation 2 Vincent Valentine side story, Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus on top of the all-platform chart, that triumph was quickly buried by Capcom's zombie-themed action title Dead Rising, which was also released last week in demo form over Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace. Microsoft Game Studios, Q Entertainment, and Phantagram's upcoming Xbox 360 action title Ninety-Nine Nights took the second spot on the chart. The aforementioned Dirge of Cerberus fell two spots and ranked as the third most requested game across all platforms.

Requests for titles for the Xbox 360 were topped by Dead Rising, which ships on August 8 for the platform, followed by Ninety-Nine Nights. The zombie romp and fantasy action game were followed by THQ's upcoming GTA-inspired Saint's Row, which ranked third on the chart.

Electronic Arts' upcoming Madden NFL 07 replaced NCAA Football 07 on top of the Xbox chart for the week, followed by Vivendi's physics-powered racing sequel, FlatOut 2. DreamCatcher Interactive's console port of its first-person shooter Painkiller, subtitled Hell Wars, rounded out the top three Xbox requests for the week.

Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus was the most requested PlayStation 2 title for the week, edging out EA's upcoming Madden NFL 07, which sat on the bench in the second spot for the week. Racer FlatOut 2 was their third most requested PlayStation 2 release on the chart.

Super Monkey Ball Adventure rolled to the top of the GameCube chart for the week, while Barnyard, THQ's licensed game based on the upcoming CG animated film of the same name, sat comfortably in the second spot. In a bit of a surprise, Nintendo's Mario Party 7 emerged as the third most requested title for the GameCube on the chart, while the previous week's third place title, Super Mario Strikers, fell into the sixth position.

Nintendo's Pokemon Emerald once again topped the Game Boy Advance chart for the week, followed by Atlus' recently shipped RPG Summon Night: Swordcraft Story. D3P's action adventure Naruto: Ninja Council was the third most requested Game Boy Advance title for the week. Turning the Nintendo DS requests, the chart was again dominated by titles published by Nintendo itself, with Star Fox: Command taking the top honors, followed by New Super Mario Bros. and the upcoming Mario-themed basketball title, Mario Hoops 3 on 3.

Namco Bandai's recently shipped Tekken: Dark Resurrection was again the most requested title for the PSP for the week. The second most requested title for the portable was EA's upcoming Madden NFL 07, while Square Enix's role-playing epic, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, occupied the third spot on the chart.

Finally, the rental charts have also begun accepting requests for the upcoming Wii and PlayStation 3 platforms as well. Super Smash Bros. Brawl topped Wii requests for the week, followed by The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a title that Nintendo expects to launch alongside the new console in both GameCube and Wii formats. Super Mario Galaxy was the third most requested Wii title for the week. Looking to the PlayStation 3, which is expected to launch on November 17, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed was the most requested game for the platform for the week, followed by Sony and Insomniac's Resistance: Fall of Man and EA's latest entry in its long running arcade-style racing series, Need for Speed: Carbon.
