LucasArts, Free Radical Partner For Next-Gen Title

LucasArts today announced a new agreement with UK-based Free Radical Design, developer of the TimeSplitters FPS series and Second Sight, to create a new game for unspecified next-generation platforms. The companies noted that more details will be forthcoming at a future date.

The move marks Free Radical's second unnamed title known to be in development for next-generation consoles. In November 2005, the company announced an agreement with Ubisoft to create a title for next-generation platforms and the PC for release in 2006, a commitment which was later reemphasized during the most recent E3 in May.

LucasArts vice president of product development Peter Hirschmann commented on the new agreement, stating: “Free Radical has always been about titles with great gameplay and innovative design. In the battle for videogame quality, these guys are at the front of the line. This team's pedigree is one of the best in the business."

In recent months, LucasArts has also signed a deal with Day 1 Studios (MechAssault, MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf) to develop a new original title for next-generation console platforms, as well as significantly redeveloping its internal game creation resources, as part of a larger plan for renaissance at the veteran publisher.
