Officials from Vivendi Games' Sierra Entertainment label have announced that Scarface: The World Is Yours, released for the PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox in early October, has already sold more than 1 million copies worldwide.

In addition, Vivendi noted that, according to previously noted NPD sales data, Scarface was the top selling game overall in North America during the month of October. Likewise, a separate PSP game based on the franchise, titled Scarface: Money. Power. Respect, was the top selling title for Sony's handheld in North America during the month.

(Despite its sales success, the various versions of the game have garnered fairly average review scores from the media, according to review aggregate site GameTab, ranging from 66% to 75%, depending on the SKU.)

Scarface: The World Is Yours is based upon the 1983 classic film from Universal Pictures, and presents a “What if?” scenario in which the main character, Tony Montana the film's mansion shootout. Players are given the opportunity to survive the shootout, after which they must then rebuild his fallen empire and take on his enemies.

“We are very appreciative of the outstanding retail and gaming community support in North America, Europe and Australia,” said Pascal Brochier, president, global retail, Vivendi Games. “This support pushed the game to #1 in North America while exceeding our expectations in Europe and beyond.”
