Crytek To Offer CryENGINE 2 Hands-On Demo At GDC

Representatives from Frankfurt-based developer Crytek (Far Cry, Crysis) have announced that the first ever public presentation of their custom CryENGINE 2 middleware will be held at this year's Game Developers Conference.

The presentation will be a hands-on demonstration of the features and capabilities of CryENGINE 2 available both to the public and developers interested in licensing the technology and tools for their own use.

Crytek has announced that the features shown for the first time will include an interactive "what you see is what you play" Sandbox2 Terrain and Visual Mission editor, including adjustable time of day settings, an integrated character animation editor, and a new motion captured/phoneme driven facial animation editor.

Developers will also be able to get hands on demonstrations of the middleware's new asset creation pipeline, used for creating realistic, interactive and breakable objects and vegetation.

Though the public has yet to get a full hands-on demonstration with CryENGINE 2, the underlying technology and graphics capabilities have seen much press attention through its use in rendering the lush vegetation and photorealistic environments of Crytek's forthcoming Crysis.

Interested parties can visit Booth 848 at the 2007 Game Developers Conference, taking place in San Francisco from March 5th to the 9th for a demonstration.
