The first ever adventure game convention has been announced for August 28th and 29th at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, with a host of famous developers planning to celebrate the genre’s thirty year history.
Confirmed guests of honor include Scott Adams of Adventure International, the creator of the seminal Adventureland and widely considered to be the grandfather of the genre. Also in attendance will be Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Low of Sierra On-Line and Jane Jensen – author and creator of the Gabriel Knight series and co-founder of Oberon Media.
Other guest speakers are expected to be announced shortly, with attendees promised two days of adventure game workshops, panel discussions, retail exhibits and the “Zork room”. Further information can be found at the convention’s official website.
“AdventureCon isn’t just a Zork Festival,” said Howard Sherman, chairman and CEO of text adventure game publisher Malinche Entertainment and AdventureCon co-founder. “Although, initially, the vision was to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Zork, it quickly grew into an expansive event encompassing the entire adventure game universe.”
