Artificial intelligence tools and middleware company Engenuity has announced the latest release of its AI implant engine, and that Canadian developer BioWare (Mass Effect) has licensed the technology for its forthcoming games.

Already integrated into Epic's Unreal Engine 3, the 5.0 release of AI.implant offers new obstacle traversal and vaulting options that the company says will "bring an increased level of immersive reality to game-play by allowing characters to navigate their environments in multiple ways including vaulting over obstacles rather than simply walking around them."

Additionally, the latest AI.implant version places "special emphasis on cinematic movement that ensures highly realistic and natural motion for non-player characters (NPCs)."

Alongside the announcement of the new version, Engenuity has said that BioWare, makers of forthcoming RPG title Mass Effect have chosen the AI solution for a yet-unannounced next-gen title.

Said BioWare president Greg Zeschuk, “Innovative and powerful tools such as AI.implant help keep our titles on the forefront of next generation gaming. While we considered other technology options, AI.implant’s leading Unreal 3 integration, dynamic pathfinding and great support made it a very simple decision to make.”
