Sony has released its latest 3.30 firmware update for its PSP, introducing added support for the handheld's video playback functionality, as well as performance upgrades to the emulator for its downloadable original PlayStation titles.

The newest update increases the maximum resolution for video files that the PSP can play back, as well as the ability to thumbnails of videos currently stored on the PlayStation 3 as well as for items in RSS feeds.

In addition, version 3.30 also includes a new "Disc Read Speed" option, which promises to speed up the performance and load times of games run on the PSP's PSone emulator. However, the feature is not without risks, as some games could behave erratically or exhibit unexpected glitches when run with the new option.

Though the new version of the firmware has yet to hit European and American servers, the update is still obtainable from the Japanese site.
