Japanese Charts Do Not Object To Ace Attorney

Capcom has scored its biggest hit yet with the Ace Attorney/Gyakuten Saiban series, with the first title made exclusively for the Nintendo DS registering over 250,000 unit sales in its first week.

The original trilogy of games, which feature Phoenix Wright as the main character, are enhanced ports of titles originally released for the Game Boy Advance. The new game features Housuke Odoroki as the new lead, with gameplay more similar to the fifth, exclusive case from the DS port of the first Ace Attorney game.

The other major new entry of the week is the delayed release of Nintendo DS puzzle game Mario Vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, which has also performed strongly, debuting with over 92,000 sales.

Sales in the rest of the chart, though, continue to be depressed, in advance of the Golden Week series of holidays at the end of the month. The only other new entry in the top ten is children’s puzzle game and activity center Watashi no Relaxuma for the Nintendo DS, with under 19,000 unit sales.

After some weeks of resurgent success for Sony format titles, this week sees only two non-Nintendo format games in the top ten. The highest ranked PSP title is Monster Hunter Portable 2nd at number fifteen, while there are no PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 titles in the whole top thirty.

(Hardware sales data for the week in Japan will be available from tomorrow morning.)
