THQ Announces de Blob For Wii, DS
THQ Announces de Blob For Wii, DS
July 5, 2007 | By Brandon Boyer

Publisher THQ has announced that developers Blue Tongue and Helixe will be bringing color-spreading action puzzle title and IGF student game finalist de Blob to the Nintendo Wii and DS in February of 2008.

de Blob, originally a Utrecht University School of the Arts student production for the Dutch city of Utrecht, tasks players with taking the role of a Katamari-esque rolling and bouncing blob character who must "liberate an alien city from the evil, monochromatic I.N.K.T. Corporation" by "splattering buildings, landmarks, and citizens with color."

THQ's Australia-based studio Blue Tongue will be handling the Wii port of the title, and the publisher's Helixe studio will be working on the handheld version for the Nintendo DS.

As noted on sister site GameSetWatch, the PC original is still available from the student group's website. The game will be significantly expanded on from that demo, promising an "intricate single player campaign" as well as multiplayer support for up to four local players.

Said THQ executive VP of worldwide publishing Kelly Flock, "In the spirit of some of Nintendo's most innovative properties, de Blob's simple game mechanic will be fun and easy for core and casual gamers to learn and reveal unbelievably addicting levels of depth and complexity as they progress through the game. We look forward to unveiling de Blob at next week's E3 press event."
