PS3 Breaks 1 Million Units In Japan

New data from Japanese magazine publisher and research group Enterbrain shows that the PlayStation 3 has finally sold more than 1 million units in Japan, after approximately eight months on sale – more than four times as long as that taken by the Wii.

According to Enterbrain’s data, 1.01 million units of the PlayStation 3 have been sold, as of July 15th, compared to 2.9 million units of the Wii sold by July 8th (suggesting that the Wii has by now sold over 3 million) and 420,705 units of the Xbox 360 by the same date.

Although figures vary between Enterbrain and the weekly figures available from Media Create, the PlayStation 3 has seen a small increase in sales in recent weeks, which had previously languished at below 10,000 units a week.

The console has also seen some small successes in the software charts, thanks to releases such as Folklore and Ninja Gaiden Sigma, but Enterbrain's own figures show that during June the Wii continued to outsell the PlayStation 3 by a factor of 6 to 1.
