Microsoft To Offer Scratched Halo 3 Disc Replacements

Following numerous reports of scratched discs in Microsoft's just launched Halo 3 limited edition, the company has announced a new campaign to replace any damaged discs through the end of the year.

Reports of damaged discs circulated widely in the lead-up to the launch of the much-awaited game. Various press editors (including some of Gamasutra's own) and retailers have noted a high likelihood of the game disc having coming unstuck from its packaging post and subsequently scratched in shipping.

In response, Microsoft has announced a replacement program, accessible via the Xbox site which promises free discs through December 31st of this year.

The replacement program covers both the game disc and the bonus 'essentials' disc packed in the Halo 3 Limited Edition package. The standard and Legendary edition use different packaging that is not as susceptible to damage. After the end of the year, the charge for replacement discs will rise to $20 for U.S. customers.
