THQ Files Nintendo IP License For Wii

According to a new SEC filing, THQ has entered into a licensing agreement with Nintendo for the use of the latter's IP in forthcoming Wii titles, though no further information on the nature of the agreement has yet been revealed.

The Form 8-K filed today grants THQ the license to October 13, 2009, and, per usual, gives Nintendo "the right to approve each game, including the game's packaging, all printed materials distributed with the game and all marketing materials."

THQ made a similar agreement in January of 2005 relating to DS games. However, it appears a generic Wii game distribution agreement - not including any Nintendo-owned game IP - might cause THQ to file such a notice for statutory reasons.

In May of this year, THQ said it was preparing 11 titles for the Wii over the following year, both in multiplatform releases like MX vs ATV, WWE Vs. Raw, Bratz and its Pixar licenses, and an original exclusive game for the console -- presumably de Blob, which was announced shortly thereafter.

Other major announced Wii offerings have been limited to the exclusive Worms: A Space Oddity, and Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed.

[UPDATE: Story updated to reflect possible generic licensing nature of agreement.]
