Sierra Entertainment and Sony Pictures Consumer Products have announced the development of Ghostbusters The Video Game, based on the classic films. Notably, the game will feature the original film cast from the original Ghostbusters films: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson.
Equipped with a variety of unique weapons and gadgets, players will hunt, fight and capture ghostly villains in a blend of action and comedy as the Ghostbusters try to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague.
The companies say Ghostbusters The Video Game will create a gameplay environment that recreates the time period of the film, expanding the story elements and events and casting the player in the role of a new recruit joining the famous Ghostbusters team.
Terminal Reality (BloodRayne) will develop the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the title, while Red Fly Studios (Mushroom Men) will develop the PlayStation 2, Wii and Nintendo DS versions. The game is expected to ship fall 2008.
Sierra Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Martin Tremblay said, "Sierra Entertainment is extremely excited to not only deliver fans, old and new, this next chapter in the Ghostbusters universe, but to allow them inside the universe for the first time. Our collaboration includes working closely alongside the team at Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Terminal Reality and Red Fly Studios. Together we will create the ultimate Ghostbusters experience, full of the characters, ghosts and other paranormal creatures so many have come to adore over the years."
