Ahead of Thursday's NPD hardware and software sales results, Nintendo of America has announced that according to internal numbers, the company has sold 6 million units of the DS through the end of November, beating prior Game Boy Advance Thanksgiving week records.

Nintendo says the amount equates to "one sold every five seconds of 2007," and posits that that the handheld will be the "top-selling video game system of any kind for the year." It also notes that sales of the DS have increased year over year every year since its November 2004 launch.

With 650,000 sold during Thanksgiving week this year, Nintendo says its previous all-time record has officially been beat, with Game Boy Advance sales topping 600,000 in Thanksgiving of 2005.

Said Nintendo marketing VP George Harrison, "There's no letup in sight. Nintendo DS appeals strongly to both core and casual gamers, and its momentum is set to propel us into 2008."
